Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a final set.

The opponent defended four early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
